What is SAP DMS

Document management system

Companies today have to master a lot of business information and documents that come in electronically or on paper. To ensure that the information is immediately available, it should be managed centrally and in a structured way.

This can be mastered by using the SAP Document Management System (SAP DMS), which is seamlessly integrated with all SAP ERP core modules. The document management solution can be used across modules in conjunction with the supply chain and logistics modules as well as with the modules for financial management and human resources. In this way, important business documents, such as safety data sheets, maintenance manuals or goods accompanying documentation, can be managed transparently and efficiently directly in the SAP system, which also optimises decision-making processes.

An advantage is that the SAP DMS is delivered as a standard function when an SAP system is installed. This eliminates the need to purchase an additional document management system. If an SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is implemented in the company, SAP document management is also introduced as part of this project. Companies that use SAP DMS software store the documents in the archive and then have this hardware available on the device at any time. It offers the fastest possible access to all information and processes - company-wide, up-to-date and audit-proof - and thus increases transparency in your company.

The SAP DMS can be installed together with the core modules during a new SAP implementation. If an SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system has already been implemented in the company, SAP document management can also be introduced additionally as part of a project. However, companies that want to use SAP DMS as a central document repository should definitely evaluate the necessary hardware.
